Wasabi Japonica
Mazuma
Mazuma is one of the original Japanese varieties of Wasabi. It is one of the spicier varieties and has good stem growth rate. Mazuma can be grown naturally in river beds, hydroponics or in soil and can produce a small rhizome in 12 months with a full harvest possible in around 2-years from tissue culture starts. The whole plant is edible and Mazuma is particularly good for high leaf production. We recommend this variety when space is limited or if vertical farming is being considered.

Wasabi Japonica
Daruma
Daruma is the fastest growing of the original Japanese wasabi varieties. Daruma has marginally less intense heat compared to Mazuma, but its advantage is its rapid growth where large rhizomes can be harvested around 1–2 years from tissue culture plants. The stems are large and are more suited to riverbeds or greenhouse production.
